Ex-UK’s PM Says Trump Gaza Plan Halted War, Crisis Persists
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Blair—who serves on the Executive Board of Trump’s Board of Peace—said the framework behind the plan was “strategically coherent,” claiming this was the key reason it succeeded in bringing hostilities to an end.
He also characterized the plan as “harder and more ambitious” than previous peace efforts, adding that it would likely be sustainable because it focuses on resolving the “roots” of the conflict rather than only its immediate symptoms.
Despite the reported halt in fighting, Blair stressed that the situation in Gaza is still “precarious.” He said that while large-scale violence has decreased significantly, ceasefire violations are still taking place.
Blair noted that humanitarian conditions have seen some improvement, particularly in food assistance, but emphasized that “life remains desperate for many,” pointing to ongoing shortages in shelter, healthcare, water, and sanitation services.
He also highlighted what he called meaningful progress in implementing Trump’s 20-point framework. This includes the establishment of a National Committee to manage Gaza’s administration and the completion of a preliminary deployment assessment for an International Stabilization Force. He further stated that international pledges for Gaza’s reconstruction have exceeded $7 billion.
According to Blair, discussions on demilitarization with Hamas are continuing under mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye. He urged sustained political backing and financial support to advance reconstruction and stabilization efforts in the territory.
